State School Superintendent Richard Woods paid a visit to North Columbia Elementary School Thursday, March 18, 2021 to recognize School Safety/Resource Officer Lee Peck, one of two winners of the inaugural Georgia RISE Award.
After the Superintendent recognized Officer Peck, five fifth-grade students provided a guided tour of the school. During the tour, Superintendent Woods paid a visit to each fourth-grade class and provided a signed, pocket Constitution reference book for each student. The book contains the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, the Pledge of Allegiance, The Star-Spangled Banner, and other important speeches and documents.
About the RISE Award
Recognizing Inspirational School Employees (RISE) is awarded to a full- or part-time classified school employee who provides exemplary service to students in pre-kindergarten through high school.
The Governor of each state was invited to nominate up to two classified school employees. Georgia ran a state-level process, the Georgia RISE Award, to select its nominees. The two winners of this state-level recognition have been nominated for the national award and will be recognized at the Georgia Teacher of the Year awards banquet in 2021.
